The most recent biggest turn of the singer’s life was the divorce with her ex-husband which made it to the headlines of many newspapers and magazines.
After 14 months of marriage, Sam Asghari filed for a divorce from his pop star wife. The duo’s relationship began in 2016 and ran its course alongside the singer’s conservatorship that limited her personal and professional decision making power.
The 42-year-old married Asghari, an actor and personal trainer seven months after a California judge ended her conservatorship.

Spears meets Asghari (October 2016)
The duo have said in various interviews that they met on the set of a music video for the singer’s song, “Slumber Party.” Asghari shared with Men’s Health that they ended up exchanging numbers at the shoot. He also added that he was excited “to meet one of the biggest artists of all time,” adding, “I had butterflies.”
Making the Relationship Public (January 2017)
The Princess of Pop first hinted at being in a relationship with Asghari with an Instagram post on New Year’s Day which showed the couple eating dinner. Next they began making appearances together such as that at the November 2017 Los Angeles Lakers game and in April 2018 at the GLAAD Media Awards.
#FreeBritney Campaign (2019)
In 2019, the singer cancelled a planned Las Vegas Residency and announced an “indefinite work hiatus.” In May, fans representing the #FreeBritney campaign marched outside a Los Angeles courthouse where a status hearing for the conservatorship was taking place. In August, a lawyer for Ms. Spears submitted a filing seeking substantial changes to the conservatorship “in order to reflect the major changes in her current lifestyle and her stated wishes.”
Asghari comes out to support Spears (2021)
In 2021, Asghari lashed out at the conservatorship in an Instagram story, writing, “I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles in our way.”
Spears requests to terminate the conservatorship
On June 23, 2021, Spears gave 23 minutes of testimony to a Los Angeles judge requesting to terminate the conservatorship. She stated that the arrangement placed unnecessary restrictions on her personal life, including preventing her from removing her birth control device. “I want to be able to get married and have a baby,” she said in her testimony. “I was told right now in the conservatorship I am not able to get married or have a baby.”
Spears and Asghari get Engaged
On September 12, 2021 Spears shared an Instagram video flaunting her new ring, which as per Vogue was a four-carat diamond. “Look at that — you like it?” Asghari says in the video. “Yes!” she responds.
Spears is released from the conservatorship
Judge Brenda Penny of Los Angele Superior Court ruled the ending of Spears’ conservatorship which gave her father, James P. Spears the right over her life and finances for the last 13 years. Before the hearing, the singer’s fiancée posted a video of the couple dancing to one of Ms. Spears’s songs while wearing #FreeBritney T-shirts.
Spears get pregnant and miscarries (2022)
On April 11, 2022, the ‘Criminal’ singer posted an image of pink flowers on Instagram announcing that she was pregnant. “So I got a pregnancy test … and uhhhhh well … I am having a baby,” she wrote in the caption.
However, a month later she announced that she had had a miscarriage. “We have lost our miracle baby,” the couple wrote.
Spears gets married for the third time
The duo held a wedding ceremony on June 9, 2022 at their abode in Thousand Oaks, California which was attended by Madonna, Selena Gomez, Paris Hilton and Drew Barrymore.
Asghari files for a divorce
Mr. Asghari submitted a divorce filing to Los Angeles Superior Court on August 16, 2023 citing irreconcilable differences. The same day, Ms. Spears posted on Instagram that she was “buying a horse soon.”
